Hosea: God's Faithfulness in Christ - Pay Attention!
Have you ever tried to teach someone something that they weren’t really interested in learning? I once had someone helping me build a fence. I was leaving them in charge of finishing a section of the project. So I showed him how to do it, and how to make sure that the fence was straight, or plumb. The entire time, he was checking his phone, "Yeah, yeah—I’ve got it,” he said. I came back the next day and nothing was plumb, so the tear-off began.
The text, Hosea 14:9, functions like a proverb, saying, Whoever is wise, let him understand these things; whoever is discerning, let him know them; for the ways of the Lord are right, and the upright walk in them, but transgressors stumble in them. The first part urges Hosea’s readers to pay attention and learn from the text. The second part reminds us that God’s ways, while not always fully understood, are right. The last part gives the application and warning. Do we understand the lessons of Hosea? Are we paying attention? Are we submitting ourselves to the Lord?
Join us as we humble ourselves before the Lord, worshipping Him for His upright character, and petitioning Him for submissive hearts.
